Social Sciences

The Social Sciences Faculty, 

Geography is a mandatory course from Year 7 to Year 10.

 

Students learn specific geographical concepts and skills in Geography. They also have an opportunity to learn more about people and the societies and environments in which they live, through elective subjects in Years 9 and 10 (Stage 5). 

The Social Sciences offer students the opportunity to:

  • research, gather and analyse information
  • question and make judgements
  • write for a variety of purposes. 

The following individual subjects are offered by the Social Sciences faculty at Carlingford High School:

  • Elective Geography  (stage 5)
  • Commerce (Stage 5)
  • Business Studies (Stage 6)
  • Economics (Stage 6)
  • Geography (Stage 6)

 

Co-Curricular Activities & Competitions

 

The Social Sciences Faculty offers students the opportunity to participate in the School Share Market Game operated by the ASX.

All students in Year 10 also participate in the Australian Business Week program during Term 4. This program has operated at Carlingford High School for over 25 years.

Students who choose Geography in Stage 6 participate in field studies as part of the course content.
